Ancient India
The Harappa or the Indus Civilization arose in the fertile Indus River Valley, after 3000 B.C. Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro were the center cities in this civilization. The Harappan Civilization came to end from a flooding of the agricultural plain.
Then, in the 1500 B.C., a new people, the Aryans, became to dominate. They created an Indian Civilization. They believed the Aryans came from central Asia. The Aryans spread north and west over the time. The Aryans divided society into four varnas, or broad social classes ranking from high to law. It begins with the Brahmins, the priestly class. Kshatriyas, the warriors. Then the Vaisyas, the commoners who were usually merchants. Finally, the fourth class were the Sudras, or peasants.
The word Varna means “color.” this discrimination was based on color. Many Aryans thought that people are born into a caste and remain in it for life. This was called a caste system, which was social and religious discrimination.
