The Glorious Revolution
The Glorious Revolution was in 1689, and it called the bloodless revolution, because it happened without blood. By the 1688 landowners and most of people did not want anymore a king to rule them, and they did not want a Catholic king.
The king of England was James by the 1688. Some nobles invited William, to come to England, who was the Dutch leader. He was married to James’s protestant daughter, Mary. William and Mary brought an army and arrived without much opposition in England. The king, James and his wife and his new infant son fled to France.
People were arguing about who will be the king of England. in January of 1689, the Parliament gave the throne to William, the Dutch leader, and his wife, if they would accept the bill of right. These Bills of rights gave some rights to people and to have a jury trial. Many of this rights were found later in the United Stated Constitution. The Parliament destroyed the divine right theory and limited the monarch’s power. England’s Glorious Revolution created a constitutional monarchy, which basically means that the king share power with the parliament.
