The Treaty of Versailles
After the end of World War 1, Woodrow Wilson, the president of U.S. drew up the Fourteen Points that included:
1) to stop the secret treaties
2) to encourage peace
3) self-determination: to allow people to choose what kind of government they want to live.
The League of Nations
The Fourteen Points led to the creation of the League of Nation (the weaker version of United Nations). Germany was not invite to the league, because they started the war. Also, Russia, because it had revolution.
The Treaty of Versailles
The Fourteen Points of Woodrow Wilson led to the Treaty of Versailles, in 1919. David Lloyd George (the president of Britain) and George Clemenceau ( the president of France) wanted Germany to pay the damages. However, Woodrow Wilson wanted peace.
As a result for this negotiate, the United States were not part of the treaty. The U.S. Senate rejected the treaty. The U.S. wanted to be neutral and to not enter in European affairs.
Germany had to pay $33 billion to the allies, as reparation for the war damages, because they started the war. Also, they had to reduce their armies and navies. They were forbidden to make weapon, use submarines or air forces.
